LEWISTOWN, Ohio — Two Indians made the top 10.
The girls were second as a squad.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls cross country team took second Saturday in the Jean Newmeyer Memorial Invitational hosted by Indian Lake.
New Bremen scored 45 points for the win, with Fort Recovery’s 59 points second. Benjamin Logan scored 80 for third.
Lima Shawnee scored 46 points to win the boys’ race. New Bremen (64) was the runner-up and Marion Local (74) placed third. Fort Recovery was seventh with 187.
Ellie Will paced the FRHS girls by finishing seventh in 21 minutes, 49 seconds. Alexis Wendel was two spots behind in 22:04, and Joelle Kaup placed 12th in 22:24. Caitlin Weitzel (14th) had a time of 22:32 while Megan Diller (21st) finished in 22:54.
Trevor Heitkamp had a time of 17:15 to place third in the boys race. Ethan Evers finished 47th in 20:28, and Evan Evers was 52nd in 20:46. Caleb Rammel (61st – 21:46) and Christian Marchal (78th – 25:54) completed the team total.
Also running for the FRHS girls were Jenna Hart (22nd), Anna Roessner (26th), Alyssa Heinrichs (27th), and Nicole Braun (39th), and for the boys were Aiden Heitkamp (80th) and Caden Marchal (83rd).
Junior high
Fort Recovery’s boys brought home the title by scoring 43 points. Marion Local scored 68 points for second, and New Bremen was third wth 72.
The Tribe girls scored 57 points for second place. Benjamin Logan had 42 points for first, and New Bremen finished with 72 points for third.
Parker Brunswick was third for the Fort Recovery boys in 11:38. Reese Diller (12:08) and Trevor Bergman (12:39) were fifth and 10th, respectively, giving the Indians three in the top 10. Matthew Marchal was 17th in 12:59 while Russell Hart placed 19th in 13:04.
Makenna Huelskamp was the individual champion for the FRMS girls with her time of 12:03. Madison Heitkamp joined her in the top 10, placing ninth in 13:50. Megan Weitzel (17th – 15:12), Aubrie Heitkamp (20th – 15:18) and Kylia Dues (22nd – 15:35) also contributed to the team score.
