Joseph Boggs and Alexis Sibray both took first place Monday as the Jay County Junior High School boys and girls cross country teams hosted the Heritage Patriots at Hudson Family Park.
Jay County’s boys had a perfect score to beat Heritage 15-50. In fact, Jay County held the top seven spots, and had eight runners finish in the top 10.
Heritage’s girls scored 34 points, while Jay County did not have enough for a team total.
Boggs had a time of 12 minutes, 23 seconds, to pace the host Patriots.
Raif Beiswanger was the runner-up in 13:14, and Beckett Brandenburg finished third in 14:30.
Dougie Cox had a time of 15:01 for fourth, and Seth Bee ended in 15:21 for fifth.
Sibray won her race in 15:51, as teammates Emily Young (15:56) and Paityn Wendel (16:06) were second and third, respectively.
Kaitlyn Fisher placed fifth in 17:43.
Also running for Jay County were Max Klopfenstein (sixth), Rocky Beiswanger (seventh), Will Hawbaker (10th), Jacob Kellogg (11th), Carter Hartman (12th) and Cayden Billington (15th).
Jay spikers win
Jay County’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both swept the Woodlan Warriors on Saturday.
The eighth graders got a 25-18, 25-17 victory, while the seventh grade squad earned a 25-22, 25-19 win.
Kayla Jetmore led the eighth graders with 15 points and six aces.
Elise Mercer was second with seven points to go with her three aces, and Lily Johnson finished with four points.
Morgan Missicano’s nine service points led the seventh grade team.
Chloe Muhlenkamp added eight points and a kill, as Lydia Johnson chipped in six points and three kills.
On Monday, the Patriot eighth graders downed Muncie Southside, 25-24, 25-11.
Jetmore and Johnson had 14 points each, with Jetmore also finishing with seven aces.
Liz Barnett added five points and an ace.
