ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Indians took a one-point lead when they scored and converted the point-after in the opening moments of the second quarter.
St. Henry closed the game with 35 unanswered points Friday night as it handed the Fort Recovery High School football team a 41-7 defeat.
After Cale Rammel scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper, the Indians (2-4, 0-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) successfully converted an onside kick. But they were unable to cash in on the possession and punted.
St. Henry needed just a single play, a 68-yard run by Owen Lefeld, to take the lead for good. The home team pushed its advantage to 27-7 at halftime and added two more touchdowns in the third quarter.
Lefeld turned in a dominant rushing effort, racking up 205 yards on just 15 carries. He scored three touchdowns.
St. Henry quarterback Bryce Brookhart went 6-of-8 through the air for 132 yards with touchdown passes to Bennett Gels and Elijah Horstman, who added a touchdown on the ground.
Offense was a struggle for the Indians, who were out-gained 436-162. Rammel completed just four of his 14 pass attempts for 64 yards with one interception. Riley Hiser was limited to 60 yards on 18 carries.
Caleb Evers led the Fort Recovery defense with eight tackles, and Logan Homan and Jose Martinez each had five.
The Indians, who have now lost four in a row after consecutive wins over Wayne Trace and Urbana to open the season, have yet another touch assignment next week. They will be on the road again, this time to take on the Division VII No. 1 Marion Local Flyers (6-0, 4-0 MAC).
