SIDNEY and CELINA, Ohio — Both Indian teams got some extra action Monday night.

Both made the most of it.

Fort Recovery High School’s baseball and softball teams picked up eight-inning victories, with the former fighting off the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers 8-6 and the latter edging the Celina Bulldogs 2-1.

The Tribe baseball team (2-1) looked headed for an easy win as it built a 6-0 lead against Lehman Catholic, but gave up six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Indians fought back immediately after their advantage disappeared as Landon Post started the top of the eighth inning with a double to left field. Cade Grisez reached base on an error and then stole second, giving the Tribe two runners in scoring position.

A Wyatt Bihn sacrifice fly pushed Post to the plate to give Fort Recovery the lead again, and Grisez scored on an RBI single by Cale Rammel.

The Cavaliers (0-3) tried for another rally as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning. But Alex Dues struck out Lehman Catholic’s JD Barhorst looking to end the game.

Meanwhile, the FRHS softball team (2-0) engaged in a defensive battle with the Bulldogs (0-2).

With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the eighth inning, sophomore Kylie Post hit a leadoff single to right field. Britney Tebbe then reached base on an error that allowed Post to advance to third base. After a strikeout, sophomore Emma Will hit a sacrifice fly to score Post with what would stand as the game-winning run.

A couple of walks and a sacrifice bunt put the potential game-tying and game-winning runs in scoring position for Celina in the bottom of the eighth inning, but freshman pitcher Jenna Homan came through in relief. She recorded a strikeout and then induced a ground out from Sarah Giesige to shortstop Cali Wendel for the final out.

Rammel powered the Tribe baseball team, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Bo Thien drove in a pair of runs, and Riggs Tobe and Grisez each scored twice. Wyatt Bihn walked twice, driving in a run and scoring once.

Grisez got the win in relief, allowing one run on a hit and three walks in 1 1/3 innings. Alex Dues struck out the final two batters of the game for the save. Bo Thien started and gave the Indians 5 1/3 scoreless innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Sophie Pearson, who tossed three scoreless innings of relief for the win, scored the only other run for the FRHS softball team in the top of the first inning after smacking a two-out single to center field. She stole second base and scored on Maddie Guggenbiller’s two-out single to center.

The only other hits in the game for the Indians were Post’s single in the seventh inning and a single from Ava Schoen.

Tebbe, Pearson and Homan, who got the save, combined to allow just two hits to the Bulldogs.
