The Indians’s bats have come alive.
After dropping its season opener, the Fort Recovery High School baseball team has now won five games in a row, including victories of 9-2 at home over Ansonia on Saturday and 14-2 over host Tri-Village in five innings Monday.
Both games were powered by one big inning.
The Indians (5-1) broke open Saturday’s game in the second inning. They were able to score five runs against the Tigers (2-2) on singles from Alex Dues, Landon Post, Wyatt Bihn and Cale Rammel.
The Tribe was held off for a while against Tri-Village (4-2) before putting up a nine-run fourth inning to take control. The first nine batters of the inning reached base, scoring six runs before the Patriots even recorded an out.
Jackson Ervin earned the win against Ansonia, striking out six batters and giving up one earned run in four innings. Rammel was the team’s top hitter with three hits, one run and two RBIs.
Grisez picked up the win in the second game, allowing one earned run on two hits in 4 1⁄3 innings of work. Four players had two or more RBIs.
Softball stumbles
Fort Recovery’s softball team lost its second game in a row Monday when it fell to Memorial (St. Mary’s) 5-2.
The game was tight for the first three innings before the Roughriders scored five runs in the fourth inning. Three of the five runs scored on an error. The other two came via hit-by-pitch and a single by Adyson VanDeKeere.
Jenna Homan suffered the loss, giving up six hits and three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work.
The Indians scored their only runs in the bottom of the seventh inning during a two-out rally. A single from Sophie Pearson scored Ava Bubp before scoring herself on Maddie Guggenbiller’s double.
Pearson was the only batter for the Tribe with multiple hits, going 3-for-4.
VanDeKeere picked up the win for the Roughriders, striking out nine batters while only allowing seven hits in six innings.
