A former Patriot made sure that lead would stand up.
Noah Arbuckle, a 2020 Jay County High School graduate, combined with teammate Tyler Papenbrock on a four-hit shutout April 6 as the Huntington University baseball team defeated Goshen 3-0 in the second game of a doubleheader.
Arbuckle took over on the mound in the fourth inning and kept the Maple Leafs’ bats quiet. He limited them to three hits and one walk over four innings while striking out four batters.
The victory was the fourth in a stretch of five in a row for HU, which is now 24-10.
Max Moser, JCHS class of 2018, helped in the 3-0 win over Goshen, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.
The graduate student was also 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI in Tuesday’s 9-4 victory over IUPUC. In the first game of the doubleheader against Goshen, he had a hit, a walk and a run in a 5-1 win.
Brenna Homan

Contributed to a strong offensive effort for the University of St. Francis softball team Wednesday as it earned its third consecutive win 11-3 over Grace.
In the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, Homan smacked an RBI infield single to bring home Abby Erwin in the third inning. She scored on Paiton Iliff’s triple to center field as she finished 1-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a walk.
Homan also had a hit for the Cougars (10-18) in a 4-3 loss to Marian on April 6 and delivered a sacrifice in a 9-5 loss Tuesday to Indiana Wesleyan.
Griffin Mann
Jay County – 2021
Played for the Hanover College men’s golf team Monday and Tuesday as it placed fifth out of nine teams in the DIII Showcase at The Donald Ross Course at French Lick.
Mann closed strong with an 85 in the final round for the Panthers, who shot 951 for the 54-hole tournament. He opened with rounds of 95 and 96 for a 276 total that placed him 42nd.
Audrey Guggenbiller
Fort Recovery – 2019
Ran for the Tiffin University women’s track team, which finished ninth out of 14 teams at the Lee Flames Invitational.
Guggenbiller finished 54th in the 800-meter run. She posted a time of 2 minutes, 36.04 seconds.
