FR outduels the Blue Jays
FORT RECOVERY — In a pitcher’s duel, one hit can make all the difference.
Fort Recovery’s breakout sophomore provided that hit to lift the Indians to victory.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team defeated the St. John’s Blue Jays 4-2 Thursday.
After the Indians fell behind 2-1 in the top of the third inning, the game became a pitcher’s duel.
An error, a walk and a single loaded the bases for Caden Grisez in the bottom of the fifth. He was able to slap a two-RBI single to right field to give the Indians the lead. A ground out from Wyatt Bihn extended the Tribe’s lead 4-2.
Alex Dues went the distance for Fort Recovery and picked up the win. He gave up four hits and two runs while striking out eight Blue Jays.
Braylon Metzger suffered the loss, giving up four runs on three hits and three walks. He also had the team’s only RBI, which came on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Cam Elwer was 2-for-3 with a run for St. John’s.
Daniel Patch drove in the initial run for the Indians on a single in the second inning.
