Acrobatics and tumbling is one of the newer sports on the collegiate scene.

A former Patriot was part of the national runner-up squad.

Kenzie Ring, a 2021 Jay County High School graduate, and the Trine University women’s acrobatics and tumbling team advanced to the championship of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association Division III Tournament.

Ring and her teammates dominated the opening round by a 241.25-216.475 score over Adrian, a team it had beaten twice during the regular season. The Thunder then topped East Texas Baptist 243.075-241.88 in the semifinal round of the national tournament hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.

Trine posted the second-best score in the history of its young program in the finals, but still fell 268.27-245.225 to the host squad. The Thunder was outscored in every event during the finals despite posting a program-best total of 35.25 points in the compulsory event.
