Acrobatics and tumbling is one of the newer sports on the collegiate scene.
A former Patriot was part of the national runner-up squad.
Kenzie Ring, a 2021 Jay County High School graduate, and the Trine University women’s acrobatics and tumbling team advanced to the championship of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association Division III Tournament.
Ring and her teammates dominated the opening round by a 241.25-216.475 score over Adrian, a team it had beaten twice during the regular season. The Thunder then topped East Texas Baptist 243.075-241.88 in the semifinal round of the national tournament hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
Trine posted the second-best score in the history of its young program in the finals, but still fell 268.27-245.225 to the host squad. The Thunder was outscored in every event during the finals despite posting a program-best total of 35.25 points in the compulsory event.
Max Moser
Jay County – 2018
Batted .500 over the last five games for the Huntington University baseball team.
The best outing of the stretch for Moser came in the Foresters’ 20-10 victory April 13 over Grace in the first half of a doubleheader when he went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the second inning and a walk as the designated hitter. He finished with three runs and two RBIs.
He was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI in the second game.
Moser followed the 5-for-7 day by going 2-for-3 with a walk and 1-for-3 with a walk in another doubleheader Friday against Grace.
Huntington has won nine of its last 10 games and is now 28-11.
Noah Arbuckle
Jay County – 2020
Went the distance in a victory for the Huntington baseball team in the 22-5 victory over Grace.
Arbuckle struck out four batters in his seven innings of work. He gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk.
Brenna Homan
Fort Recovery – 2021
Recorded one of six hits for the University of St. Francis softball team Wednesday as it knocked off Taylor 3-2.
Homan singled to center field to lead of the top of the third inning and advanced to second when Brooklyn McCord was hit by a pitch. She moved to third on a ground but got stranded there.
The sophomore was also 1-for-3 Saturday as the Cougars (12-20) lost 5-2 to Huntington in the second half of a doubleheader. She had a stolen base in the opener.
Jalyn Bruns
Fort Recovery – 2022
Posted the No. 4 score for the Indiana University East women’s golf team April 14 and 15 as it hosted the IU East Spring Invitational at Richmond’s Forest Hills Country Club.
Bruns tallied a 91 for the Red Wolves, trailing teammates Brooklynn Cromwell (79) Annie Gillock (84) and Katie Craig (89). IU East shot 343 as a team and tied for second with IU Kokomo behind Oakland City (337).
Audrey Guggenbiller
Fort Recovery – 2019
Finished in the middle of the pack Saturday for the Dragons as they hosted the Tiffin Track Carnival.
Guggenbiller placed ninth in the 1,500-meter run in a field of 18. She posted a time of 5 minutes, 25.38 seconds.
Lindy Wood
Jay County – 2022
Ran for the University of St. Francis women’s track team April 14 at the Don Kleinow Invitational hosted by Siena Heights.
Wood posted a time of 21 minutes, 3.02 seconds, in the 5,000-meter run for the Cougars. She was 21st out of 37 competitors.

Pitched in relief for the Manchester University baseball team Tuesday in a 17-9 loss to St. Francis.
Heniser entered the game in the seventh inning with the Spartans trailing 14-8. He gave up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two in three innings.
