RICHMOND — Coach Dave Haines created a rule stating three-putts would earn the golfers pushups. Their focus improved Wednesday night, shooting a 180.

The Patriots got even better, improving upon that score further Thursday.

Caleb DeRome and Gage Sims led the way for the Patriots (3-2), each shooting 42.

Following their lead was Liam Garringer with 46.

Just as the medalists tied, No. 4 and No. 5 Cody DeHoff and Luke Fugiett also earned the same score, finishing with 48 to round out the Patriot’s score.

The JV team shot 218 on the day. The team’s best came from Isaac Homan who shot a 51.

Hurtful fifth

WOODBURN — The Jay County High School baseball team played in its first Allen County Athletic Conference game of the year and they lost 8-6 to the host Woodlan Warriors on Thursday.

The Patriots (4-6, 0-1 ACAC) led for most of the game after scoring four runs in the first three innings.

They lost their 4-1 lead in the fifth, when the Warriors tore off seven runs on three singles, a double, a walk, an error and a dropped third strike.

Jay County had one last push in it when Ryne Goldsworthy blasted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, but it was too little too late.

The Patriots had 12 hits in the game. Cody Rowles and Sam Myers had three apiece.

Myers was saddled with the loss after giving up eight unearned runs and four hits on 4 2/3 innings.

Gavin Sheehan picked up the win after he gave up 10 hits and four runs in 5 2/3 innings.
