FORT RECOVERY and NEW MADISON, Ohio — A four-run second inning helped the Indians break a four-game losing streak.

The Fort Recovery High School softball team topped the host Tri-Village Patriots 6-3 Monday after losing their fourth straight game 7-2 at home Saturday to the Russia Raiders.

The Indians (6-8) struck first against Tri-Village. The first two batters of the second inning reached base before Kayla Heitkamp’s bunt plated them. Audra Bubp singled to score Heitkamp, who later scored on a single from Kylie Post.

The lead would not be relinquished, as Britney Tebbe earned the win. She pitched four innings in which she only gave up one hit.

Saturday’s game didn’t go as smoothly for Tebbe or the Indians. The junior gave up four runs in the first two innings on home runs from Kori Goubeaux and Cece Borchers.

The Indians’ runs came in the third and fourth innings when Maddie Guggenbiller doubled home a run and Cali Wendel scored on a passed ball and an error by catcher Jaela Shappie.

Dues blanks

VAN WERT, Ohio, and BERNE — The Fort Recovery baseball team traded shutouts in their last two games, defeating the visiting Lincolnview Lancers 4-0 Monday after falling 9-0 to the host South Adams Starfires on Saturday.

Alex Dues led the Indians (9-5) to victory in Van Wert, blanking the Lancers. He gave up three hits in the first inning but came away unscathed and then allowed just three more the rest of the way.

Daniel Patch sparked the team’s offense, delivering a two-out double to score Cale Rammel in the top of the first inning. Patch would hit two doubles, driving in one run and scoring another.

Monday’s game against the Starfires wasn’t as kind to Fort Recovery.

South Adams’ Derek Weaver held the Indians to just one hit as he shut them out. The hit belonged to Tucker Overman, who singled in the top of the seventh inning before Weaver struck Riggs Tobe out ending the game.

Jackson Ervin suffered the loss, giving up six runs as part of a seven-run third inning for the Starfires.
