A year ago, the Patriots had to fight for both of their victories over Union City.
In comparison, Tuesday night was a breeze.
Jay County High School’s girls tennis team dismantled the sectional rival Indians 5-0 for its second sweep of the season.
The Patriots defeated Union City 3-2 during the 2022 regular season and again in the sectional championship match. They also met in the 2021 sectional final, with JCHS winning 4-1.
Jay County got 6-0, 6-1 victories at three positions:
•Meredith Dirksen and Sophie Sprunger extended their win streak to six by taking down Union City’s Lindsey Garrett and Sylaris Denney in the No. 2 doubles match.
•After a tough outing on Monday, No. 1 doubles duo Kaylee and Melana Zimmerman bounced back with a victory over Shelby Arnold and Kalam Denney.
•Brenna Haines at the No. 1 singles defeated the Indians’ Emily Evans in a rematch from last season.
Close behind was Jay County’s Maggie Dillon who handled Elizabeth Prinkey in the No. 3 singles contest 6-3, 6-0.
Brenna Bailey was a part of another long match when facing Camryn Fischer in the No. 2 singles matchup. Bailey was able to come out on top this time, winning 6-4, 7-5.
