FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — The girls were able to sprint to second place. The boys relied on their distance to score.
The Fort Recovery High School girls track team got a strong effort from Anna Roessner and Mara Pearson as it scored 66 points Tuesday to finish second to host Fort Loramie (102.5) in a four-team meet that also included Anna and New Knoxville.
The Indian boys tallied 36 points for third place while Anna won with 107.
Anna Roessner and Mara Pearson led the Indian sprinters to a one-two finish in the 100-meter and 200 dash. Roessner won the 200 dash with a time of 27.02 seconds while Pearson took the 100 dash at 12.99. Pearson also won the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 2 1/2 inches.
The girls’ sole distance victory came from Natalie Brunswick in the 3,200 run coming in at 11 minutes, 37.91 seconds.
The boys claimed two victories, both from junior Trevor Heitkamp. His wins were in the 1,600 run (4:32.52) and the 3,200 run (9:53.22).
Bats quieted
ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery baseball team was held scoreless Tuesday against Midwest Athletic Conference rival St. Henry, 4-0.
The Indians (9-6, 3-3 MAC) were only able to put together five hits against Devin Delzeith, who went the distance and earned the win for St. Henry.
The Indians had Bo Thien on the mound. Although he struck out nine batters, he suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits.
Lucas Clune provided the offense for St. Henry, smacking two hits that drove in runs in the second and sixth innings.
The only Indians to reach base twice were Troy Homan and Sage Wendel, who each had a hit and a walk in the contest.
Indians fall
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s softball team couldn’t quiet St. Henry’s bats on Tuesday, losing 14-5.
It was the Indians’ fourth straight Midwest Athletic Conference loss, moving them to 0-4 in league play.
The Indians (6-9) were able to produce 13 base runners, but that wasn’t enough to keep up.
Four players had multiple hits, including Maddie Guggenbiller and Ava Schoen, who each drove in a run.
Sophie Pearson suffered the loss after giving up six runs on four hits in two innings of work.
St. Henry broke through in the third inning, scoring five runs. They continued to add on the following two innings, plating two runs each before getting four more in the seventh.
Carlee Rethman went 4-for-4, including two home runs that tallied four RBIs.
