The school record for wins is within sight for the Foresters.
Two Patriots have been a big part of their success.
Noah Arbuckle and Max Moser have helped the Huntington University baseball team to 31 victories so far, including a doubleheader sweep of Goshen on Monday.
Arbuckle, a 2020 Jay County High School graduate, came through with a clutch relief appearance in a 6-5 Foresters win in the first game. He entered the game with HU clinging to a one-run lead in the eighth inning and faced just one batter over the minimum as he blanked Goshen to earn the save.
Moser, who graduated from JCHS in 2018, had a walk and an RBI in the win.
A 7-1 victory in the second game Monday pushed Huntington to 31-16 on the year, just five wins away from the school record. The Foresters close the regular season with a four-game set against Marian (17-27) prior to the Crossroads League tournament.
Moser’s best recent game came as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI on Friday in a 17-4 loss in the second game of a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan.
Arkbuckle started the first game Friday, giving up five runs on six hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings as the Foresters fell 10-6.
Jalyn Bruns
FRHS – 2022
Recorded the No. 3 score for the Indiana University East, which won the River States Conference Championship by three strokes over Midway on Tuesday at Belterra Resort in Florence, Kentucky.
Bruns finished 12th overall, shooting her best score in the first round of the 54-hole tournament with an 86. She followed with an 88 and an 87 for her total of 261.
Brenna Homan
FRHS – 2021
Reached base for the University of St. Francis softball team Saturday in its 10-6 loss to Spring Arbor in the first game of a doubleheader.
Homan singled in the sixth inning, stole second and scored on an RBI double by Brooklyn McCord. She also had three walks.
The sophomore also scored a run in the second game of the doubleheader.
Homan went 1-for-3 April 20 in a 7-3 win over Taylor in the second game of a doubleheader after drawing a walk in game one.
Griffin Mann
Jay County – 2021
Played for the Hanover College men’s golf team Sunday and Monday in the Earlham Men’s Spring Invitational at Richmond Elks Country Club.
Mann closed the 36-hole tournament with a 90 after shooting 92 in the opening round. His 182 was the No. 5 score for the Panthers, who finished sixth out of nine teams.
