MINSTER, Ohio — The Wildcats were able to manufacture runs.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team lost a close game to the Midwest Athletic Conference rival Minster Wildcats 3-1 on Thursday.
The Indians (8-7, 2-4 MAC) struck first in the bottom of the second. A single, walk and dropped third strike loaded the bases. Landon Post then walked in a seven-pitch at bat to score the Tribe’s only run.
Minster would tie the game up in the fourth inning when Brady Wolf drove in a run on a single.
The game would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth, when James Niemeyer’s two-out single drove in two runs. A walk, sacrifice bunt and single are what put the runners on for Niemeyer.
Alex Dues suffered the loss for Fort Recovery, going the distance and giving up three runs despite striking out six batters.
Struggles continue
The Minster Wildcats were too much to handle for the Fort Recovery softball team, beating the Indians 9-2 on Thursday.
The Wildcats finished with only six hits, but got nine runs as two errors from the Indians (6-10, 0-6 Midwest Athletic Conference) helped score six runs in the sixth inning.
Sophie Pearson was saddled with the loss, giving up nine runs, six of which were earned, in 5 1/3 innings of work.
The Tribe’s runs came in the fourth inning when a double from Cali Wendel drove in two runs.
The Indians faced an early deficit in the game, when two walks and an error loaded the bases before Kacie Albers hit a bases-clearing double to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
