FORT RECOVERY — The Indians were one win away from making the state tournament.

All that stood in their way was the Cavaliers. Coldwater had already beaten the Indians three times this summer. Once in the regular season and twice in the sectional tournament. Fort Recovery could not change their luck in the district tournament.

The Fort Recovery ACME baseball team came up short against Coldwater’s ACME team losing 1-0 in the first game and 13-3 in the second on Sunday.

The sole run in the first game came in the bottom of the second inning. Brady Lefeld hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Kenny Bailey to tag up from third base.

Alex Dues shut the Cavaliers down the rest of the game, but didn’t receive any run support to suffer the loss.

Both teams scored three runs in the first inning of game two. The Indians (12-5) couldn’t keep up as Coldwater put up two more in the third before exploding for six runs in the fourth.

Alex Gaerke suffered the loss after giving up eight runs on four hits in 1 ? innings.

Tobe had the team’s only RBI while Caden Grisez was the only player with multiple hits.

Rockets split with Blues

FORT WAYNE — The Portland Rockets split a pair of games against the Fort Wayne Blues on Saturday. The Rockets held off the Blues for a 7-6 victory in game one before falling 14-11 at Carrington Field in the second.

After going down 3-0, Noah Collins jump started the Rockets’ offense with a two-RBI single in the fourth inning. They would take the lead in the fifth on Blake Caldwell’s single and a passed ball.

Back-to-back-to-back doubles by Caldwell, Peyton Smith and Gavin Gleason scored three runs in the top of the eighth. It was what Portland (15-10) needed as the Blues were able to score two runs but came up short of the tie.

Garrison Brege earned the win while Sam Dunlavy got the save.

Despite scoring ten runs over the first three innings, the Rockets couldn’t silence the Blues’ offense, giving up a trio of four-run innings to fall 14-11.

Eleven hits powered the three innings, including four doubles.

Smith suffered the loss, giving up two runs in the sixth inning without recording an out. Joel Kennedy led the Rockets with two RBIs while Ayden Lichtenstiger had a team-high three hits.
