BATTLE CREEK, Michigan, and CELINA, Ohio — The Rockets got some solid individual performances over the weekend, but it wasn’t enough to consistently win.

The Portland Rockets split a doubleheader on Saturday, losing to the Manistee Saints 8-2 and beating the Battle Creek Merchants 9-4 before falling 12-2 to the Grand Lake Mariners on Sunday.

In the game against the Saints, Crosby Hensier only gave up one earned run in five innings pitched, with three unearned runs crossing the plate. Vasin Ridgeway recorded his first hit and RBI of the season on a ground ball to center field.

The Rockets’ (3-4) bats came alive in game two with 12 hits that scored nine runs. Peyton Smith, Jacob Barr and Noah Perkins all recorded multiple hits in the game. Barr drove in three runs while Smith and Blake Caldwell each added two.

Despite home runs from Jared Holly and Zach Tanner, the Rockets couldn’t get the offense going, while the Mariners racked up 12 runs on 16 hits. Tyler Reynolds was on the mound for 11 of the 12 runs, but only six of them were earned.
