FORT RECOVERY — The Indians have had a hot start to the summer season.
Another hot start led them to another win.
The Fort Recovery ACME baseball team scored all nine of its runs in the first three innings in its 9-1 win against St. Mary’s on Monday.
The Roughriders’ sole run came in the top of the first inning, when Reece Evers walked a runner who later scored on a single.
Evers blanked St. Marys while Alex Gaerke took over in the fifth to take over and finished the job for Evers. They struck out nine batters in the contest, allowing six hits and only one run.
The Indians struck back in the second inning with three runs scoring on a double, single, sacrifice fly and an error.
Fort Recovery exploded for six runs in the third inning. Gavin Faller, Reece Wendel, Rex Leverette and Riggs Tobe all smacked doubles in the inning.
Leverette led the Indians with three RBIs while Tobe added two. Faller, Wendel, Leverette and Tobe all had two hits.
First at camp
NORTH MANCHESTER — The Jay County High School cheerleading squad participated in the Universal Cheerleader Association summer camp at Manchester University over the weekend.
On Sunday, the varsity and junior varsity members competed together, earning first-place in the Camp Routine Championship and second in the Game Day Championship.
Mady Fraley, Cash Hollowell and Erin Ring were named All American Cheerleaders at the event. Fraley and Hollowell were also invited to UCA staff tryouts.
Fraley participated in a “jump off” and won the event.
The event also had a “Pin it forward” award that coaches and staff could hand out to athletes that had qualities that made them stand out. Freshman Brenna Schmiesing was given the award by a UCA staff member, while another squad awarded it to Coryn Blalock.
Optimist rolls
Portland Junior League Rookie softball’s Optimist won its game against Homestead Bedding 12-3 on Monday.
Four players for Optimist hit a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate. Hazel Younts hit a double with her two singles and scored two runs.
Kynlee Homan and Lizzie Miller both slapped three singles while scoring two runs. Ivy Buchtel scored once with her three singles.
Homestead Bedding’s top three hitters all shared the same line score of two singles and one run. Those hitters were Emily Bricker, Kenna Cramer and Scarlett Rogers.
Wings win
Wings and Rings defeated REMC of Portland Junior League Rookie softball 14-1 on Monday.
Eight batters were perfect from the plate for Wings and Rings, seven of them going 3-for-3 from the plate.
Kendall Evans and Carsyn Guggenbiller both tallied three runs to go with their hits.
Just behind them with two runs scored were Hayden Guggenbiller, Lucy Locke and Emme Theurer.
Kierstyn White crossed home plate one time, while Maddie Theurer and Hadleigh Walker just accrued their three singles.
