The Jay County Summer Swim team dominated Blackford and Marion at the Jay County Junior-Senior High School pool Thursday.
Jay County’s 825 points earned them first place. Trailing was Blackford with 159 points and Marion at 103.
The Jay County swimmers won 53 of the 62 individual events and 17 out of 18 relay events.
There were eight swimmers who won three events each. At the 8-and-younger level, were Jaley Knapschafer (girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley), Cora Arnold (girls backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle) and Henry Warvel (boys butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke).
Addisyn Champ took the individual medley, breaststroke and short freestyle for the 9-10-year old girls.
Maria Laux won three events for the girls 11-12-year-old competitions while Grant Glentzer handled the boys side.
Both Brooklyn Byrum and Raif Beiswanger took the individual medley in the 13-14-year-old races as well as netted two more victories.
Seven more swimmers hit the wall first for Jay County in a pair of events.
FR ACME falls
FORT RECOVERY — The Indians have averaged eight runs per game in through the first six games of the summer season.
AJ Harlamert held the Indians to three hits to stifle the hot offense and give the Indians their first loss of the season.
The Fort Recovery ACME baseball team couldn’t get into a rhythm offensively as they fell to the Coldwater ACME baseball team 6-3 Thursday.
Harlamert only gave up three hits. Two of those came from Gavin Faller, who also had two RBIs.
Caden Grisez was the only other Indian with a hit, and Alex Gaerke had the only other RBI.
Gaerke suffered the loss for Fort Recovery. He pitched the first 2 2/3 innings, giving up five runs.
Three singles, two walks and an error powered a four-run fourth inning for the Cavaliers.
Forge wins
Portland Forge took down Loy’s Realty of Portland Junior League Sandy Koufax baseball 8-4 on Thursday.
Andrew Day and Cooper Shimp led Portland Forge with three and two RBIs respectively. Shimp also hit a double.
Cooper Reynolds did a little of everything for Portland Forge, scoring a run, driving a runner in and earning a hit.
Caleb Sibray and Peyton Yowell both had an RBI for Loy’s Realty. Sibray scored two runs while Yowell scored once.
Aston scored the final run for Loy’s Realty while adding a single.
Lions Club wins
Lions Club defeated Display Craft of Portland Junior League Willie Mays baseball 10-7 on Thursday.
Finn Hemmelgarn and Bentley Brunswick powered the Lions Club’s offense. Hemmelgarn hit a double while driving four runs in. Brunswick hit a triple and a single that pushed three runs across the plate.
Benton Langenkamp and Griffin Lambert both had three RBIs for Display Craft. Lambert drove the runs in on two doubles while Langenkamp did it with a double and a single.
Ryker Price earned the win on the mound, giving up two runs while the Lions Club scored four in the bottom of the fourth inning to give them the win.
Potent offense
The Portland All Stars 8-and-younger softball team’s offensive dominance continued on Thursday as they beat Winchester 15-0 on Thursday.
Carsyn Guggenbiller, Savannah Hudson and Jolee LeMaster were all perfect from the plate, smacking four singles. Hudson scored four runs, Guggenbiller three and LeMaster two.
Kendall Snow, Emme Theurer and Kierstyn White all hit a double and two singles in the game. Theurer scored three times and White twice.
The All Stars scored multiple runs in all four innings, the most coming in the six-run second inning.
REMC wins
Optimist fell to REMC of Portland Junior League Rookie softball 11-6 on Wednesday night.
Ellie Darby led Optimist at the plate, hitting a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
Hazel Younts and Ava VanSkyock both had three singles in the loss.
Ellie Ray hit one single and scored a run while Ivy Trinidad was 2-for-4 from the plate with a pair of singles.
