PENVILLE — Anniston Hammond dominated for the Penrod Monument Yellow Jackets.

Hammond’s 12 goals lead the Yellow Jackets to a 16-0 victory over the I.D.C. Restaurant Bees and led the Pennville Soccer League in scoring in the final week of the regular season on Saturday.

Stella McClain scored three goals in the victory and Steven Ault added one.

Raul Martinez was the leading scorer in the space division. He scored three goals for the Vinson Rental Properties Galaxy’s 3-3 tie with the PG14 Radio Asteroids and 4 more in a 5-1 win over the Bro Shadow Stars. Alex Vinson scored for Galaxy as well while Chandler Coleman had the goal for the Stars.

The leading scorer of the Wildcat division was Charlee Peters of the Pennville General Store Lions. Peters netted three goals in the 4-2 victory over the New Beginnings Holiness Church Cougars.

Other top scorers from Saturday include William Higgins (7), Mabel Leonhard (5) and Kenna Penrod (5) all from the Ryzone’s Wasps and Vinny New who scored five goals in a pair of victories for the Pennville Pantry Meteors.



Double split

MISHAWAKA — The Portland Rockets split a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend against the South Bend Royals and the Michiana Brewers.

The Rockets lost the first game in extra innings to the Royals 7-6 in the first game on Saturday. Jacob Barr drove in a run in the top of the eighth inning to give the Rockets the lead, but Jared Holley couldn’t hold the lead on the mound as a single and an error tied the game before Hunter Aker hit a walk-off single.

The Rockets took game two 8-4. Zach Tanner blasted a home run and four RBIs and Holley smacked a double and a triple that drove in two runs to power the Rockets to the win.

They won the first game Sunday against the Brewers 2-0. Tyler Reynolds gave up three hits over six innings in a dominant victory. Tanner and Noah Collins supported Reynold’s efforts with RBI-singles.

Portland fell in the final game 6-5. They had a one-run lead entering the final frame, but Trevor Sheets couldn’t hold them off, surrendering four singles to allow the Brewers to walk the game off.



Williams wins

Williams Auto Parts beat Barnett’s Auto Parts 10-6 on Saturday in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.

Hayden Franks led Williams Auto Parts with a single and a double that drove in three runs. He also scored twice himself.

Parker Huntsman hit two doubles that drove two runs in while Tanner Loucks smacked a pair of singles that drove a pair in.

Bentley Berry led Barnett’s Auto Parts with a home run, double and single. He scored twice for his team.

Drew Lingo also scored twice for Barnett’s Auto Parts after earning a double and a single.



Wings rolls

Wings and Rings continued their hot streak on Friday night when they beat REMC of Portland Junior League Rookie softball 17-2.

Seven hitters were perfect for Wings and Rings, four of which were 4-for-4 from the plate.

Emme Theurer led the team with a home run, two doubles and a single, as well as crossing home plate four times. Carsyn Guggenbiller also scored four runs off of four singles.

Kierstyn White hit a triple along with her three hits and added two runs.

Kendall Evans was the final player to score multiple times, crossing home plate twice to go along with her four hits.

Hayden Guggenbiller, Maddie Theurer and Hadleigh Walker all hit three singles and scored a run.
