Divisions announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The OHSAA released the divisional breakdowns for winter sports during the 2023-24 season Monday morning.

Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team will compete in Division IV, the smallest division, while girls basketball will remain in division III, the second-smallest division.

Fort Recovery’s “2023-24 Boys Basketball Adjusted Enrollment” of 108 is the 30th-largest in the division and just one spot lower than Midwest Athletic Conference rival Marion Local. Parkway, Minster, New Bremen, New Knoxville and St. John’s are also in Division IV.

The Fort Recovery girls are tied for the 12th-smallest school in Division III. Coldwater, Parkway and Versailles are the other MAC teams in Division III.

The divisional breakdowns for all other winter sports have not changed from the 2022-23 season. Therefore, boys and girls bowling and boys and girls swimming and diving will remain in Division II (the smallest division).

Errors help Rockets

A four-run seventh inning lead the Portland Rockets to an 8-4 victory over the Fort Wayne Renegades on Friday night at Runkle-Miller Field.

The Rockets were down 3-2 entering the seventh. Keegan Laycock struck the first two Rockets batters out in the frame before a walk and a dropped third strike put runners on first and third. Dakota Durick’s single to left field was able to score both runners and give the Rockets a 4-3 lead.

A pair of walks loaded the bases and an error on the Renegades’ catcher, Jordan Holley, allowed two more runs to score in the inning.

The Rockets scored two more runs in the eighth on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Garrison Brege.

Trever Sheets earned the win for the Rockets, throwing seven innings in which he surrendered three runs while striking nine batters out.

Crosby Heniser pitched the final two frames, giving up one run on two hits.
