ANDERSON — Gabi Bilbrey took one step up to the top of the standings in her second indoor meet of the season.
Molly Muhlenkamp and a boys relay joined her in victory.
Bilbrey, who was second in the season opener at Indiana Wesleyan University, won the shot put Saturday in the Golden Eagle Relays at Anderson University with Muhlenkamp taking the top spot the high jump. The boys finished first in the 4x800-meter relay.
With a toss of 38 feet, 1 inch, Saturday, Bilbrey improved by more than 3.5 feet over her second-place finish eight days earlier. She won the event by more than 4 feet over runner-up Maris Bulger of Guerin Catholic.
Teammates Chelsea Frontz (30 feet, 3 inches) and Jordyn Hutzler (30 feet, 1 inch) followed Bilbrey for the Patriots in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Muhlenkamp made it over the bar on her first attempt at 4 feet, 10 inches, to give her the victory in the high jump. Teammate Jenna Dues and Guerin Catholic’s Kori Dues were runners-up, also at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Jay County’s team of Brayden Collins, Dylan Marentes, Tony Wood and Joseph Boggs won the 4x800 relay in 9 minutes, 0.68 seconds. They were nearly 12 seconds faster than the second-place team from Guerin Catholic.
Austyn LeMaster nearly gave the Patriots a sweep of the throwing-event titles at the meet as he finished second in the boys shot put competition. He was just one inch behind champion Hunter Cook of Anderson at 38 feet, 9 inches.
The JCHS girls were in the top three in all four relays, with Natalie Wehrly, Morgan DeHoff, Johanna Anders and Dues (1:53.97) placing second in the 4x200. Maria Hemmelgarn, Anders, DeHoff and Wehrly (4:18.72) were third in the 4x400 while Alexis Sibray, Willow Hardy, Paityn Wendel and Muhlenkamp finished third in both the 4x800 and distance medley in 11:21.74 and 15:11.39, respectively.
Wyatt Kunkler, Marentes, Collins and Boggs (12:38.33) were third in the distance medley for the Patriot boys while Owen Ransom, Trey Nichols, Wood and Kunkler (3:49.65) were third in the 4x400 relay.
DeHoff finished third in the girls 60 hurdles in 10.62 seconds. She also placed fifth in the long jump.
Wehrly was fourth in the 60 dash.
Kunkler placed fourth in the 60 hurdles and fifth in the high jump for the boys team. Darren Fisher was fifth in the 800-meter run.
