Three days after breaking records in the conference meet, Maria Laux and Cooper Glentzer were even faster.
Laux and Glentzer each won a pair of events and improved on their Allen County Athletic Conference record times from Friday as the Jay County Junior High School swim teams closed their seasons Monday with a split against the visiting Blackford Bruins.
The Byrums — Brooklynn and Elly — and Laux each won a pair of events to lead the Patriot girls to a 167-108 victory. The boys team lost 144-113.
Laux and Ariel Beiswanger gave Jay County a one-two finish in the girls 100-yard freestyle. After breaking the ACAC record Friday with a time of 1 minute, 1.77 seconds, Laux reached the wall in 1:01.59 for Monday’s victory.
In the 100 individual medley, Laux placed first in 1:13.78 ahead of teammates Gabby Gibson and Alyvia Muhlenkamp.
Glentzer’s victory Friday night broke the previous ACAC record in the 400 freestyle by nearly 18 seconds. He sliced another five seconds from his time to win the race Monday in 4:27.13.
In the 50 freestyle, Glentzer picked up the win in with a time of 27.21.
Brooklynn Byrum was at the front end of a pair of one-two finishes, taking the top spot in 2:30.68 ahead of Kaitlyn Fisher in the 200 freestyle and winning the 400 freestyle in 5:13.6 ahead of Gibson. Elly Byrum led a one-two Patriot effort in the 50 freestyle with Ariel Beiswanger second and was also first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:29.15.
Fisher added the other individual victory for the girls team in 32.21 in the 50 butterfly.
Carson Westgerdes joined Glentzer as a double winner for the Jay County boys, posting victories in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.87 and the 50 butterfly in 32.38.
The Byrums, Laux and Fisher won the 200 medley relay (2:17.01) and 200 freestyle relay (2:03.54) for the girls team. Beiswanger, Muhlenkamp, Gibson and Wendel took the 300 freestyle relay in 3:53.35.
Alex Frazee, Glentzer and Westgerdes teamed with Grady Warvel to win the boys 200 medley relay (2:20.64) and Jaxson Wendel for first in the 200 freestyle relay (2:02.06).
