The sectional draw did the Patriots no favors.
Their opening tournament game will be against the only team they have lost to this season.
The Jay County High School softball team drew an opening-round game against the Centerville Bulldogs for the Class 3A Sectional 24 Tournament at Delta in the IHSAA tournament draw Sunday.
The IHSAA also held the tournament draw for baseball with JCHS opening the sectional tournament against New Castle, and the OHSAA seeding for softball resulted in Fort Recovery getting an opening-round game against Paulding.
Jay County is having one of its best softball seasons in the history of its program, currently sitting at 13-1. That lone loss came by a 10-8 score April 15 to Centerville.
The Patriots will play Centerville (4-5) in the second of two opening-round games in the Delta tournament. (Sectionals run from May 22 through 27.)
The host Delta Eagles (1-12) will face Mississinewa (7-4) in the other opening-round game. The winner will face New Castle (3-9) in the semifinal round.
The Centerville/Jay County winner will take on No. 7 Yorktown in the semifinal round. The Tigers (10-3) are the reigning sectional champions.
