Homan helps USF close strong
Collegiate Check-up
The Cougars closed their regular season with six consecutive wins.
A former Indian was a big part of that success.
Brenna Homan, a 2021 Fort Recovery High School graduate, scored four times and drove in three runs over the final four games for the University of St. Francis softball team as it finished on a hot streak to pull within a couple of games of .500.
Homan was especially strong in the Cougars’ season-ending doubleheader Friday against Bethel. She singled and scored in the first inning of their 15-9 win in the first game and then walked and scored in the fourth. She finished 1-for-3 with the walk, two runs and an RBI.
The sophomore had an RBI ground out in the first inning of USF’s 11-5 victory in game two and then singled and drove in a run in the third inning.
In the Cougars’ 6-1 win over Bethel on April 27, Homan finished 1-for-2 with a run.
The strong end to the regular-season pushed St. Francis, which had opened with three consecutive losses and had an 11-game skid this year, to 22-24. The Cougars were set to play Huntington (19-27) in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament on Wednesday.
Homan has played in 41 games this season and is hitting .247 with 15 runs and five RBIs.
Noah Arbuckle
Jay County – 2020
Pitched the Huntington University baseball team to the fourth of its six consecutive wins to end the regular-season.
On Friday in the second half of a doubleheader against Marion, Arbuckle went the distance while allowing just two runs in a 5-2 victory. He struck out six batters while walking one and giving up six hits for the Foresters, who closed their season at 35-14.
HU’s winning streak pushed it one game ahead of Indiana Wesleyan for second place in the Crossroads League at 27-9, finishing behind 21st-ranked Taylor (37-13, 30-6 CL). It was slated to play its first game of the Crossroads League tournament this morning.
Max Moser
Jay County – 2018
Helped out his former high school teammate with a hit in the Huntington University baseball team’s 5-2 win over Marian.
Moser had a single in the second inning in the game Friday. It was one of eight hits for the Foresters.
