BERNE — The Indians had more hits.
But they couldn’t string them together into runs and errors helped spark their opponent.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team gave up nine unearned runs Friday night as it lost 10-1 to the host South Adams Starfires.
The Indians (6-12), who have lost four in a row and seven of their last eight, lost despite out-hitting South Adams 8-7. That result came in part because of four errors that allowed the Starfires (8-6) to circle the bases while Fort Recovery left five runners on.
Bailey Tebbe took the loss despite giving up only one earned run. She allowed six runs in all on five hits in five innings and struck out four while not giving up a walk.
Leadoff hitter Macy Pries set the tone for SAHS, going 2-for-4, scoring three times and driving in one run. Her sister Peyton had a double and three RBIs, and Sofia Schwartz blasted a home run as part of her 2-for-3, two-RBI effort. The Starfires scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and rolled from there, adding three runs in the third, one in the fourth and four in the sixth.
Emma Will and Sophie Pearson each finished 2-for-3 for Fort Recovery. Maddie Guggenbiller had a double and scored the Indians’ only run in the fourth inning. Also adding hits were Audra Bubp, Kylie Post and Nevaeh Lennartz.
Gracy Bixler picked up the win for South Adams, tossing four innings and giving up one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four.
