FRHS baseball falls to Raiders
RUSSIA, Ohio — A walk off and an early deficit spelled the Indians’ demise in a doubleheader.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team dropped a pair against the Russia Raiders on Saturday 4-3 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
The Tribe scored two runs on wild pitches and another from a single by Wyatt Bihn in the game to briefly take a 3-2 lead but a Russia single tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Bo Thien walked the first two batters of the seventh inning before the Indians went to Caden Grisez on the mound. The next batter was intentionally walked before Zane Shappie hit a ball to shortstop that scored the winning run.
The Raiders scored a run in each of the first three innings.
Fort Recovery’s only run in game two came on a single by Sage Wendel in the fourth inning. Ross Fiessinger kept the Tribe quiet the rest of the game, despite giving up seven hits.
Seeded fifth
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery baseball team got the No. 5 seed in the Division IV Northwest 3 Sectional/District.
The Indians will host seventh-seeded Lima Central Catholic at 5 p.m. May 16 for the opening round of the sectional at Coldwater.
The winner will take on No. 4 seed New Bremen in the sectional title game. The Indians won their regular-season matchup against the Cardinals 3-0.
The opposing sectional features ninth-seeded Waynesfield-Goshen against 10th-seeded Perry for the chance to play No. 1 seed St. Henry.
Midwest Athletic Conference rival Minster is the No. 3 seed and will play the winner of the matchup between eighth-seeded Marion Local and 11th-seeded New Knoxville.
The district tournament rounds out with No. 6 seed Parkway taking on No. 12 seed Lima Temple Christian for the chance to play second-seeded Crestview.
