FORT RECOVERY — The Indians got all the runs they needed in their first trip to the plate.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team rode a four-run first inning to victory Friday night as it defeated the Franklin Monroe Jets 5-2.
Bo Thien set the tone for the Indians, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run as the team evened its record at 11-11. Cole Grisez was 2-for-3 with a run, and Riggs Tobe finished with a double, a walk and an RBI.
Thien pitched his way to the victory, striking out seven batters in 4 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs — one earned — one two hits and a walk.
Jackson Ervin finished off Franklin Monroe, striking out three batters in 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He walked three batters while holding the Jets hitless.
Cade Peters took the loss for Franklin Monroe, allowing five runs — four earned — on nine hits and a walk in six innings.
Fort Recovery will play Arcanum today and New Knoxville on Monday before hosting Lima Central Catholic in the opening round of the sectional tournament at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
