NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Indians’ pitching came through. The Cardinals’ did as well.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team was no-hit on Thursday and lost 2-1 in the Division IV sectional championship game against New Bremen.
Aaron Thieman led off with a single while Jonny Heitkamp hit a double off of Bo Thien to put runners on second and third. Pitcher Nolan Kuenning followed up with a single to center field to score Thieman and Heitkamp and give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
It was all New Bremen would need to win the game.
The Indian’s sole run came in the sixth inning. Cale Rammel drew a walk and stole second base before Sage Wendel hit a ground ball that was mishandled by second baseman Maddox Wells, allowing Rammel to score.
Outside of the unearned run, Kuenning dominated the Indian hitters, only allowing four walks and throwing the no-hitter.
Bo Thien suffered the loss, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out eight Cardinals.
Five make All-MAC
FORT RECOVERY — Five players from the Fort Recovery baseball and softball teams made All-Midwest Athletic Conference teams.
Alex Dues and Caden Grisez were both named to the First Team All-MAC.
Dues pitched a team high 55 ? innings while recording a 0.76 ERA. Grisez led the team with a .308 batting average.
Both players are set to return to the Indians’ squad for the 2024 season.
Maddie Guggenbiller, Jenna Homan and Sophie Pearson were all named to the Second Team All-MAC.
Guggenbiller set the FRHS career home run record this year with 15 home runs. She led the Indians in home runs (6) and RBIs (22). Pearson hit for a team best .356 during the campaign. Homan pitched 56 innings while earning a team low 2.88 ERA.
Jenna Homan will return for the Indians in 2024, while the other two graduate and will play in college. Guggenbiller will play for Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio, while Pearson will play for Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
Listed as honorable mentions were Daniel Patch, Landon Post and Cale Rammel for baseball as well as Kylie Post and Emma Will for softball.
