To the editor:
I am deeply disappointed by the recent chaos that ensued during the Redkey Town Council meeting.
As a resident of Redkey, I believe it is crucial for our local government to conduct meetings in a civil and productive manner, focused on addressing the needs and concerns of our community.
The dispute regarding the placement of a sewer cleanout on the property owned by Alicha and Bob Miller underscores a breakdown in effective communication within the council and town employees.
The discrepancy between the quoted date of August and Alicha Miller's assertion that the decision to relocate was made in January raises pertinent questions. Where is the documented agreement outlining the terms of the location of the sewer complete with signatures?
It baffles me that no one on the council was concerned with the discrepancy in the date of this supposed contract. It's imperative to address the absence of a formal contract, as conducting business without one undermines transparency and accountability.
It is particularly concerning that motions aimed at resolving the issue were met with resistance.
The refusal to consider alternative solutions, such as moving the cleanout at no cost to the Millers, reflects a lack of willingness to prioritize the well-being of residents over bureaucratic hurdles.
As a community, we deserve better.
I urge the members of the Redkey Town Council to reflect on the events of the recent meeting and commit to upholding the principles of transparency, collaboration and civility in future proceedings.
Our town deserves leadership that listens to its residents and works diligently to address their concerns in a constructive manner.
Sincerely,
Sara Grady Kolodka
Redkey
