AS I SEE IT

Fiber Fest had activities, entertainment

This past weekend I attended our local Fiber Fest. It bills itself as a celebration of the fiber arts. I think that is a rather ambiguous description of the scope of the event.

Differences in others should be cherished

What makes flowers bloom? Why do they bloom? Why are there so many different shapes and colors?

Birthdays and babies are celebrated

My sister-in-law, Sue, received the best present ever last week.

There are all kinds of magic in the world

“I’m sorry my son turned you into a frog . . .” is how my daughter, Beth, recently began a text to her youngest son’s kindergarten teacher.

Getting old helps you gain perspective

I am now officially old. As of Sunday, I qualify for every discount given to old people. I also qualify for Medicare.

Comfort of socks has improved with time

Socks. For some reason almost every pair of socks I put on last week had holes in them by the time I took them off in the evening.

Hiding in books helps her avoid the past

I finally sorted and put away much of the paperwork I brought home from Mom’s last year.

Working outdoors perked up her mood

January is almost over. Paperwhite daffodils are blooming merrily in their containers and filling the house with the sweet smell of spring.

Plans can change at a moment’s notice

It has been said that man plans and God laughs. This past weekend illustrated that perfectly.

Granddaughter’s personality is emerging

“I’m not a little girl. I’m five!” my granddaughter Emma exclaimed when I wished her happy birthday.

Show kindness and tolerance this year

Thank goodness last year is finally, blessedly over.

Togetherness is the most important part

It is Christmas evening. Presents still linger along with stray bits of wrapping paper. The cat is staring at me.

Holiday traditions can evolve and change

It is only a few more days until Christmas.

Godspeed is wished for hero John Glenn

Godspeed, John Glenn.

Memories can provide a rosy glow

I found a note from my brother, Michael, on the computer this morning. It said he didn’t want anything, that he was missing me. He was also missing his mom and dad and the way things used to be.
