Dues delivers
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team got a strong performance out of Alex Dues on the mound to lead the Indians to a 3-1 victory over the Hillsdale Falcons in the OHSAA Division IV state semifinal on Saturday at Canal Park, home of the Ducks.
Tough finish
YORKTOWN — Patriots’ coach Dave Haines has often raved about the mental focus and maturity of Caleb DeRome. That attitude came into play on the back nine after a slow start on the front. Unfortunately for the senior, it wasn’t enough to achieve his goal of breaking 80.
Offense shows out for Cook’s
There are multiple different ways to win baseball games. A strong offensive performance will often get you where you need to go. Four players put up big numbers for Cook’s Nursery in its 12-3 win over Pak-A-Sak on Wednesday in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.

“Why not us?” That’s how the Indians have been breaking down their huddles through the postseason. That mindset has carried them through the sectional, past the Midwest Athletic Conference teams in the district and helped them defeat a 20-win team in the regional.

Saturday marked the 50th anniversary of Jeff Brown of Dunkirk High School winning the Robert S. Hinshaw Mental Attitude Award in Boys Track and Field.

Four Patriots named All-ACAC
The Patriots picked up their first pair of postseason wins in over a decade this year. They didn’t quite get the job done in the regular season, but still walked away as the runners-up in the Allen County Athletic Conference. Now they have some postseason accolades starting to roll in.
DeRome to the throne
Despite Caleb DeRome becoming the first sectional medalist in Jay County High School boys golf history, the Patriots fell 14 strokes short of moving on after shooting a 343 on Monday morning at Hickory Hills Golf Course in the IHSAA Sectional 19 hosted by Monroe Central.
Beiswanger leads Cougars
Lyle Beiswanger didn’t score a goal in the opening week. After week No. 2, he leads the entire division. Beiswanger was the only player to score more than one goal to lead the Wild Cat Division of Pennville Soccer Club on Saturday.
FRHS rolls on to state

Patriots, Beiswanger named Academic All-State
The Patriots earned their fourth straight sectional championship in the 2024 season. Their work didn’t stop on the court, as they also excelled in the classroom. The Jay County High School girls tennis team was named Academic All-State by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association on Wednesday.
