The Portland Country Club Women’s Association is hosting a golf tournament, Rally for a Cure, to raise money and awareness of breast cancer, on Aug. 12, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. It is a Closest to Pin (Par 3 Hole) Contest.
Pow-Wow to be held (7/11/03)
The annual White Buffalo Society Pow Wow will be held Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20, at the Gaston Lions Club Fairgrounds, Gaston.
Fashion review planned
The annual Showcase of Fashions will be held Tuesday, July 22, at 4 p.m. in the Jay County Courthouse Auditorium following the 4-H fashion show judging.

The Jay County High School Latin Club placed 11th at the National Junior Classical League Publicity Contest in San Antonio, Texas, Wednesday.

The Davis Purdue Field Day will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Davis Purdue Ag Center located seven miles south of Redkey on Ind. 1.

All area eighth graders are invited to compete for a trip to Washington, D.C., by competing in an essay contest entitled, Grocery Shopping Starts on Hoosier Farms.
Local student wins contest
Thomas Dunn III, son of Thomas and Rita Dunn, Portland, competed in an essay contest entitled “If I Were Mayor, I Would...” earlier this summer.
Lowe named teacher of year (9/11/03)
The Portland Evening Optimists recently honored teacher Warren Lowe as Teacher of the Year.
Kids can try the bus before school
There are seats available for the Jay County Public Library’s Don’t Miss the Bus Program to be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. at the library.
Teen back from space camp
Thomas Bowen, son of Jeff and Teresa Bowen, Portland, recently graduated from the U.S. Space Academy held at the U.S. Space and Rocketry Center in Huntsville, Ala. He is a seventh grader at East Jay Middle School.
Art exhibition scheduled (9/24/03)
Artists from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky will exhibit their work during the Harvest Biennial 2003 Regional Juried Exhibition in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery at Arts Place, Inc., beginning Saturday, Oct. 4, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. followed by an awards presentation at 6:30 p.m.
New arts portal set (10/7/03)
Arts Place Inc. has partnered with Envisage, a Bloomington, Ind.-based high technology firm, to promote the arts in Indiana.
