Funds OK’d for recovery facility report
Progress on Jay County’s recovery home is on the way. Jay County Commissioners on Monday approved utilizing $11,000 for a preliminary engineering report on the new prospective sober living facility in Portland.
Intern has given fair a boost
Kaden Khayyata is the sponsorship intern for the Jay County Fair, with his duties expanding far beyond reaching out to potential businesses to seek funding for the annual event.
County denies funding without contract
Commissioners heard a request Monday from JCDC board president Angie Paxson and executive director Travis Richards to disburse county funds for the first half of 2024. The county and JCDC have yet to come to a contract agreement for this year.

Portland Park Board heard updates from regarding Portland Water Park during its meeting Tuesday, including that the new heater at the facility has been installed and will be activated Monday.

During a special meeting Tuesday, the Jay County Development Corporation (JDCC) board of directors agreed to have board member Josh Atkinson work through the proposed lease agreement with city attorney Wes Schemanur.
Fort Recovery awarded grants
Fort Recovery Village Council heard about two grants awarded to the village as well as funding allotted to Fort Recovery Morvilius Opera House during its meeting Monday.
Ordinance actions
Portland City Council addressed three ordinances during its meeting Monday, including approving the ordinance regarding sick leave benefit donations on first and second reading.
Program offered
Moral Reconation Therapy, a cognitive-behavioral treatment intended to help participants make better decisions and improve their behavior, is now in full swing at Jay County Jail.

The Jay County Democrats elected former two-term Portland mayor Randy Geesaman as their new chair during a reorganization meeting Friday evening. Indiana Democratic Party 3rd District Chair Chad Wierzbinski led the meeting.

Indiana Department of Workforce Development estimates released Monday show Jay County with an unemployment rate of 3.9%.
